The Ohio State University at Newark Great Performers Series is proud to present jazz violinist Christian Howes on Tuesday, February 6th in Founders Auditorium at 8 PM. The concert is free and open to the public.
A native of Columbus, OH, Howe is currently based in New York and performs internationally. He began his classical training at the age of five and performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra at the age of 16. Howes has built upon his strong classical background to become “one of the world’s best young jazz violinists,” according to Strings Magazine.
Now in his early 30s, Howes has played venues such as the Newport Jazz Festival, Birdland, the Knitting Factory, Blues Alley and the Village Vanguard. His performance and recording collaborations include artists Les Paul, Randy Brecker and Lenny White, among many others. Howes has been compared with violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, and is known for his versatility as a violinist and composer.
Howes’ passion for music reaches beyond performing and composing to educational and community work. As a Yamaha Performing Artist, he has been a featured clinician, composer, and performer to the American String Teachers Association convention. An anti-racism activist, Howes speaks to students about anti-racism. He volunteers for several state prisons as a speaker, performer and mentor to prison inmates.
