The
Ohio State University at
Newark
is proud to present a new season of its Great Performers Series.
Joel Harrison, jazz guitarist and composer will open the series on
Sunday, October 14 at 8 pm in the Reese Center Auditorium.
The show is free and open to the public.
Harrison will visit Newark as part of his Midwest tour, as he celebrates the release of his new CD, “Harbor,” on Highnote Records. He is touring with Pete McCann on acoustic and electric guitar, Stephan Crump on acoustic bass and Jordon Perlson on drums and percussion.
A guitarist, composer and vocalist, Harrison “occupies a musical space between many worlds: jazz, African and Indian, contemporary classical, blues and Appalachian songs all have a place in his unique approach.”
Best known for his composing and arranging skills, Harrison has twice been selected as the winner of the Jazz Composer's Alliance Julius Hemphill Composition Competition and has been the recipient of grants from Chamber Music America, Meet the Composer, the Cary Trust, NYSCA, and others.
Harrison has collaborated with such artists as Dave Liebman, Norah Jones, David Binney, Jamey Haddad, Dan Weiss, Dewey Redman, Uri Caine, Todd Reynolds, Wendy Sutter, Christian Howes and Caleb Burhans, among others.
