RAISE Mass Choir to Perform in Reese Auditorium

September 5, 2006—Newark, OH—RAISE Mass Choir, a gospel chorus based out of Columbus, Ohio, is scheduled to perform at The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College in Reese Auditorium on Friday, September 29, 2006 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.

RAISE Mass Choir was formed in 1992 to perform at a city-wide concert.  Following this premiere performance, the members established a permanent group.  The choir has performed throughout the United States as well as Germany, Portugal and Austria.  RAISE Mass Choir, whose repertoire includes spirituals, choral music, hymns, traditional and contemporary gospel music, is directed by Dr. Raymond Wise. 

 The members of RAISE Mass Choir can be heard on several albums, singing background vocals for artists such as Diana Ross, Ron Richardson and the Rinat Choir of Israel.  The choir was also the first African American group to perform gospel music at the International Advent sing in Vienna, Austria.  RAISE Mass Choir recently served as the chorus for the Columbus Symphony’s production of Hannibal Lokumbe’s African Portraits.  The group has also released two albums entitled Jesus You Brought Me and New on Sound of Gospel records. 

The Office of Multicultural Affairs at Central Ohio Technical College and The Ohio State University at Newark sponsor the choir’s performance on September 29, 2006.  The concert is free and open to the public.  For more information, please contact Vorley Taylor at 740-366-9443.
