Stimulating
thinking, raising classroom expectations, encouraging curiosity and the
search for knowledge – in these and many other ways, teaching is a reward on
its own. However, recognition from students and colleagues is also nice.
The Teaching Excellence Award is presented annually to a full-time lecturer/visiting assistant professor, a tenure-track faculty member and a tenured faculty member “to recognize individuals doing excellent teaching and to stimulate excellence in teaching.”
Ohio State Newark students, faculty, administrators and alumni may make nominations. The nominees are then evaluated by a committee of previous winners, students appointed by the Student Senate and faculty appointed by the Professional Standards Committee. In addition to the prestige of the award, recipients will be given a monetary award or a one-time course reduction. Recipients’ names are also added to the Teaching Excellence Award plaque on display in Founders Hall.
Recent winners of the Teaching Excellence Award include Jose Cabral, Andrew Roberts, Mark Kwasny, Dioni Viscari, Ron Emoff, Annette Fieldstone, Richard Shiels, David Paul and George Mike Walsh.
Nomination forms can be picked up in the Library (Founders 1144), Admissions & Advising (Founders 1075), or downloaded here. The deadline for nominations is Friday, April 4.
