Background

Audra Jennings received her B.A. from Murray State University and her M.A. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University (2008). Her teaching and research interests include modern U.S. history, with an emphasis in politics, disability, gender, labor, and social movements. She is also interested in history and new media, public history, and historical methods. She is currently revising her dissertation, “With Minds Fixed on the Horrors of War: Liberalism and Disability Activism, 1940-1960,” which examines disability activism, federal policy, and liberalism in the United States during World War II and the postwar era.

Dr. Jennings is the author of “‘The Greatest Numbers . . . Will Be Wage Earners’: Organized Labor and Disability Activism, 1945-1953,” Labor: Studies in Working-Class History of the Americas (November 2007). She created the website, “The Human Machinery of War: Disability on the Front Lines and the Factory Floor, 1941-1945,” which is hosted by e-History (http://ehistory.osu.edu/osu/mmh/machinery/index.cfm). Additionally, she served as editor of “Disability and History,” a special section of Disability Studies Quarterly (July 2008).

She is the recipient of the Presidential Fellowship from the Graduate School at The Ohio State University, the 2006 Harry S. Truman Library Institute Dissertation Year Fellowship, and the William Green Memorial Fellowship from the Department of Economics at The Ohio State University. She has also received research and travel grants from the Roosevelt and Truman Libraries and the Graduate School, Department of History, and the Council of Graduate Students at The Ohio State University. Dr. Jennings also served three terms as Secretary of the Disability History Association.
