    K-12 Reading Endorsement

The K-12 Reading Endorsement at The Ohio State University at Newark is a graduate-level endorsement program for previously certified or licensed teachers. After completing the required coursework outlined on the K-12 Reading Endorsement Program Sheet and the required PRAXIS II exam, students may have their initial certificate/license endorsed for Reading by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE).

Unique considerations about the Ohio State Newark Reading Endorsement Program:

    • The Reading Endorsement program is a 6 quarter program
    • Any graduate level, licensed, or certified teacher may enter the program at anytime during the academic year
    • All of the Reading Endorsement courses may be taken at Ohio State Newark, except EDU T&L 671: Clinical Practice. At this time, Ed T&L 671: Clinical Practice is offered every quarter on the Columbus campus
    • One may apply all K-12 Reading Endorsement courses to the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in the School of Learning and Teaching on all Ohio State University campuses. Limitations exist on the number of credit hours (i.e., 10) that can be transferred into the M.A. if the courses are taken before acceptance into the M.A.. Check with faculty advisors for more information.
    To earn the Reading Endorsement:
    • Complete all required coursework
    • Be sure to have one year of successful teaching experience before the Reading Endorsement is approved.
    • Earn a passing score on the Praxis II text, "Introduction to the Teaching of Reading" (Test Code 0200). For information regarding PRAXIS exams, see www.ets.org/praxis/
