What I Wish My Heart Had Heard,
What I Can Tell You Now

Elyn Tibbs

Without a fear of heights or a fear of love
What we need is far above... the lights of the city
My God I pity, the girl who's too skinny
But thinks she's gotta shimmy into a size two
Just to get the dude who thinks he's the bee's knees
But he's covered in nothin' but fleas, baby please.

"If it barks like a dog and has fleas like a dog, it's a dawg.”

Get your education, like your daddy said, get your degree
Cuz when you have smarts, sweetheart, you are free;
To grow tall and wise, above the streets and skies
And don't listen to Satan minions and their nasty lies.

Sons and daughters, do as you're told,
And don't stop for anything and be bold!
There is no limit if you can sing, or write, or draw
You'll leave your friends, your family, and haters in awe;
Arts and sciences offer a freedom like nothing else can
You'll teach the world when you become a grown man.

Girls and boys, you'll someday be grown,
For now you're young, but remember you must own
Up to mistakes and blunders, but you'll never be too far under,
Despite a world of fear, sorrow, and condemnation,
For a second chance, a shot at redemption!
