Instructors are expected to meet all classes and class cancellations should be the rare exception. The Associate Dean’s Office is to be notified (x69315) when a faculty member is unable to attend class. When instructors cannot be present, they should make arrangements for the class to take part in a relevant learning experience. Instructors should not change the time(s), day(s), or room for their classes as indicated in the schedule of courses without the prior authorization of the Associate Dean. Faculty members are also expected to complete a Newark Campus Application for Leave Form when they miss class for any reason. This form is available at:

Occasionally a faculty member may have to cancel class due to an emergency situation. In such cases, the Associate Dean’s Office should be notified (x69315) during regular business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) so that a notice may be posted at the classroom. If an evening or weekend class is cancelled after regular business hours, the Security office (x69237) should also be contacted to post a notice of the cancellation at the classroom. As with other class absences, please complete the Newark Campus Application for Leave Form.
When the Newark Campus is closed due to the weather conditions, closings will be announced by area radio stations (WCLT, WHTH, WNKO, WMVO, WTHS, WHIZ, WHOK, WOSU, WXLE, and WNCI) and all Columbus TV stations. A recorded message at (740) 366-9216 also announces campus closures.
