The purpose of the OSUN Scholarly
Accomplishment Award is to recognize two leading scholars
from among the OSU Newark teaching faculty, one tenured and
one tenure-track. The Award consists of a one-course
reduction in each recipient’s teaching load, and the OSUN
Academic Administration has agreed to cooperate in
rescheduling the
recipient’s other courses so that one
quarter will be free from teaching and other
responsibilities to advance their scholarly pursuits.
1. Elect a Chair for the Scholarly
Accomplishment Award Subcommittee of the Professional
Standards Committee. This should be done at the beginning of
Winter Quarter.
2. The Chair should update the
Nomination Ballot to list the current full-time teaching
faculty.
3. The Chair should number and
distribute the Nomination Ballots to the full-time OSUN
teaching faculty in early February. The deadline for the
receipt of nominations is the beginning of March (listing
the day and date on the Ballot).
4. After collecting nominations, notify
the nominees individually of their candidacy, and request
that their materials be submitted to the Subcommittee Chair
by the beginning of May. This may include an evaluation from
an outside evaluator at the nominee’s request.
5. Form the Awards Subcommittee, which
must consist of three tenured or tenure-track faculty
members drawn from a pool consisting of members of the
Professional Standards Committee and previous Award
recipients. If required, add to the pool one outside
professional/academic evaluator invited by the Subcommittee.
The Chair of the Subcommittee will be responsible for
convening the meetings and coordinating the Award
Subcommittee’s work. No faculty member who is considered for
the Award may participate in the selection process.
6. Hold Subcommittee deliberations and
select one Awardee at the tenure-track level and one at the
tenured level. The Chair of the Subcommittee writes two
letters, summarizing the distinguished qualities of each
Awardee’s accomplishments.
7. Send the two letters to the OSUN
Dean, requesting that the Awardees be announced at an
appropriate occasion.
8. Send a letter to each of the
nominees thanking them for their participation and
indicating whether or not they received the Award.
