Guidelines for OSUN Research and Scholarly Activity Awards
I.
The Professional Standards Committee advises the Academic
Dean on requests for research funds, publication costs,
small grants, and Student Assistantship Grants. All tenure
and tenure-track faculty members are eligible to apply.
Travel to professional meetings, in-state or out, is funded
elsewhere. Faculty members are encouraged to investigate
other funding resources.
II.
Two primary calls for proposals
will be made with a third, supplementary call optional if
funds remain in the budget following the second call. All
funding categories will observe the same deadlines.
a.
Autumn Quarter: Deadline:
First Friday in November
b.
Winter Quarter: Deadline:
Last Friday in February
c.
Spring Quarter Deadline:
Mid-May (if funds remain)
III.
There are three funding categories with associated limits on
funds:
a.
Category 1: Research Grants.
These include funds for costs involved in the conduct of
research and scholarly activity. Maximum funding for a
single project is $4000; grant requests are limited to a
two-year time span, during which unexpended funds will be
carried over.
b.
Category 2: Publication Costs.
The funding of costs related to the publication of research
in the form of a book in contract with a scholarly
publishing house, or an article accepted by a scholarly,
refereed journal will be independent of any previous funding
for the research project. Maximum funding for such costs for
a single book or article is $2000.
c.
Category 3: Small Grants.
Limited to $500 per project, these include (a) expenses,
such as travel, for costs involved in the conduct of
research and scholarly activity not already funded by a
research grant; (b) submission fees for papers to be
presented at scholarly meetings, with a limit of one
application per paper; and (c) reprints of articles.
IV.
Funding Priorities for Categories 1 and 2.
a.
Priority 1: Basic research or
other scholarly activity that promises to add new knowledge
to the discipline.
b.
Priority 2: Pedagogical
research directed to improvements in the presentation of
knowledge, but not primarily intended to add new knowledge
to a discipline.
