There is no application form.
Proposals should be written in short, concise sentences with
specific clear English; jargon or technical terms unfamiliar
to someone outside the discipline should be avoided. Each
proposal must include the following components:
I.
The Abstract. This will serve as the cover sheet of
the application. It should state the project title and
contain a brief summary (not more than 200 words). It should
close with the signature, academic title, and academic
department of the applicant.
II.
Supporting Documents (not required for small grants):
a. Category 1
(Research): at least one letter of support is required, from
either the applicant’s department chair or an expert in the
field who is familiar with the application and the
applicant’s work. Such letters will be forwarded to the R&SA
Committee, and copies thereof will be retained by the
applicant and by the OSUN Dean.
b. Category 2
(Publication Costs): a copy of the book contract, or a
letter of acceptance from the editor of a scholarly journal,
is required.
III.
The Narrative. This should not exceed three
double-spaced typewritten pages, and must include the
following sections:
a.
A specific statement of the problem and objective of the
project, including citations of previous research on similar
matters, if any, by either the applicant or other
researchers;
b.
A description of the project and the methods that will be
used to attain stated objectives;
c. A
presentation, publication, exhibition, or performance plan;
d.
A statement concerning the skills, resources, and consumable
items needed for the successful undertaking of the project,
and who will provide them; specific responsibilities should
be clearly stated.
e.
Other pertinent information.
IV.
The Budget Sheet.
This should be developed in sufficient detail to provide the
Committee with a complete understanding of how the funds
would be spent. Personnel should be identified by title,
salary rate, and time committed. Travel, equipment, and
supplies should be itemized. If possible, sources for the
price quotation should be cited.
a. Describe
current grant money (including start-up funds) available to
you for this project.
b. If
other funds area currently available to you, then provide a
detailed justification for why the money you are requesting
from the Committee is necessary.
c. Describe
any additional funding you are presently seeking for this
project (list granting agency and amount requested).
d. If
you do not receive funding from other sources as described
in “C,” and the amount you receive from the Committee is all
that you receive, will any portion of your project be
possible? Please justify.
V.
Curriculum Vitae. This is to assist the Committee in
evaluating the experiences and knowledge of the applicant
relative to the proposed project.
VI.
