Description of the Award
The award will be
given annually to one lecturer/visiting assistant professor, one tenure-track faculty member
and one tenured faculty member at OSU Newark.
A.
Each recipient will receive $2500, a personal plaque and
have his or her name added to the permanent plaque.
B.
The tenure-track and tenured recipient may choose a $1000
increase in base pay instead of $2500.
C.
The tenured recipient may choose a one-time, one-course
reduction in his or her teaching load instead of a monetary
award.
II.
Recipient Qualifications
In order to be
eligible for the award, an OSU-Newark faculty member must meet
the following qualifications:
A. be a full-time instructor on the Newark Campus during the
academic year that the award is given
B.
have student evaluations for the two most recent teaching
quarters
C.
shall not have received the award within the past three
years
III.
Selection Committee
A. The OSU Newark Professional Standards Committee will
appoint the chair of the Selection Committee and one additional
tenured or tenure-track faculty member to serve on the
committee.
B.
The Committee will include the three winners from the
previous year. If a winner is unable to serve, the
corresponding winner from two years prior will be appointed. If
a sufficient number of previous winners are unavailable,
full-time faculty will be appointed in place of previous
winners.
C.
The Committee will include two students appointed by the
President of the Student Senate and approved by a vote of the
Senate.
IV.
Nominations
A. Nomination forms will be posted around the campus by
the Selection Committee the last three weeks of Winter Quarter
and the first two weeks of Spring Quarter.
B. A request for nominations shall be placed in campus
publications. OSU Newark students, faculty, administrators and
alumni are all eligible to nominate faculty. A valid nomination
form must include a statement telling why a faculty member
should be considered and the signature of the nominator. Self
nominations are not permitted. A sample form is attached.
C. If at
least three nominations have not been received in each of the
three categories
by the end of the first week of Spring Quarter, a nomination
form will be placed in the mailbox of each full-time lecturer
and faculty member. At the discretion of the Selection
Committee, members may hand out nomination forms in the
cafeteria.
D. The Chair of the Selection Committee will tabulate the
names of the nominees and will remove the signatures from the
nomination forms. Only the chair will have a record of the
names of the persons making nominations. All unsupported or
unsigned nominations will be rejected.
E. During the nomination period, the Chair of the
Selection Committee will consult with the Associate Dean of the
Ohio State University at Newark to determine which nominated
faculty are eligible for the award based on the criteria in II
and to which of the three categories each faculty member
belongs.
