Steps to Register a Student Organization

1. The group must have at least five students willing to commit time and effort to the formation and maintenance of the group. These five students provide the basic structure of the organization. One of the five students must be wiling to serve as the primary contact person.

2. To register a new student organization, one of the five students will need to start the registration process through OrgSync, the website management site for student organizations. To become a member of OrgSync, follow the instructions below:

a)    Go to www.orgsync.com

b)    Click on Register

c)    Select Central Ohio Technical College & The Ohio State University at Newark

d)    Create your personal account

e)   After creating your personal account, on your account page, select “Register New Organization” to start the registration process for the new student organization.

3. The group must contact a faculty or staff member of Central Ohio Technical College or The Ohio State University at Newark and ask them to serve as a faculty/staff advisor to the organization. A faculty/staff advisor is needed before a student organization will be formally recognized by the Office of Student Life.

4. The organization will need to write a constitution, which serves as an outline of goals and purposes for the organization. The Constitution template is available to aid in the process of creating a constitution.

5. Once a constitution is written, it should be sent electronically to the Office of Student Life (studentlife@newark.ohio-state.edu) for review. The constitution may also be uploaded during the registration process on OrgSync.

6. The constitution and OrgSync registration will be reviewed by the Assistant Director of Student Life. Approval confirmation will be sent by email to the student who initiated the registration on OrgSync. Approval will be sent within one week of submission.
